This semester, students at both the middle school and high school are working towards a schoolwide academic goal (Wildly Important Goal or WIG). Interested students joined our Student Academic Leadership Teams (SALT) which is responsible for setting the goal, tracking its progress, posting results on a schoolwide scoreboard, and planning celebrations for meeting those goals.
Each student in the SALT picked a subgroup to be in. These groups included data collection and reporting, scoreboards, celebrations, and public relations. These groups meet at least once a week to track their groups progress and execute their responsibilities.
On Thursday, January 23, the SALT introduced the WIG to the student body then students began to choose lead measures to move themselves towards meeting the final goal. The middle school goal is to cut the number of missing assignments in half by comparing first quarter to third quarter. The high school goal is to raise the schoolwide simple GPA (semester only, not cumulative) from a 3.19 last semester to a 3.30 by the end of April this semester.
This is all part of our Leader in Me curriculum that we use at NHS with our focus this year on goal setting.
